Sun Life¡¦s eServices wins IDC Enterprise Innovation Award

Sun Life Financial Asia has won the prestigious 2009 IDC Enterprise Innovation Award for its Sun Life Hong Kong eServices ¡V an innovative online platform that provides information access to customers and partners. The IDC Enterprise Innovation Awards honour the top 10 companies that demonstrate excellence and achievement in information technology in the Asia-Pacific region.

A Canadian insurance giant, Sun Life Financial was selected from a pool of 300 entries for its online eServices application. Using an efficient and flexible cloud computing technology, the Sun Life eServices portal is a secure web platform, which makes information access easy for Sun Life¡¦s customers, agents, partners and internal users. In addition to its technological innovation, the eServices program also sets Sun Life Financial apart from its competitors in terms of providing needed online tools that facilitate customer and partner interaction with the company in Hong Kong. eServices went live in early 2009.

Mark Ross, Vice President and CIO for Sun Life Financial Asia said: ¡§we are all absolutely thrilled and honoured about receiving this award,¡¨ said Ross. ¡§This is an important advance in online customer tools for the insurance and wealth management industry, and provides a stronger platform for information sharing and collaboration with our team and our partners. It¡¦s great to see that the hard work of the team has paid off in raising our customer service to a new level.¡¨

eServices allows Sun Life Financial to increase the frequency and quality of engagement with its customers, providing them with real-time access to their account information, and online services similar to those that top-tier banks offer customers. Customers can access their policy information at any time, moving the insurance and wealth management company towards more of a ¡§self service¡¨ model for customer services. It provides another alternative to call centre operations or paper-based operations.

¡§This is indeed a real honour for Sun Life Asia,¡¨ said Stephan Rajotte, President, Sun Life Financial Asia. ¡§What¡¦s great about this award is that the eServices project not only demonstrated our customer-focus by creating a tool that they wanted, but we¡¦re also now being recognized by the industry for our innovation.¡¨

Sun Life is reaping operational efficiencies because with the cloud computing model, which was provided by salesforce.com, the company only needed to invest on a usage basis, and can now easily scale the system up or down as required.

"The power of cloud computing is in the opportunity it offers for innovation, without the cost and risk associated with traditional software, particularly in times like these¡¨, said Steve McWhirter, President, salesforce.com, Asia-Pacific. "We applaud Sun Life on this wonderful achievement. We are proud to be their partner, working in the cloud together."

IDC is the leading provider of data-driven research and analysis in the region. This is the 3rd year for the Innovation Awards, and in addition to Sun Life Financial, the select group of winners this year included MTR Hong Kong and Haier Group. Past winners include Li and Fung, CLSA Asia Pacific Markets, and CPF Singapore.

The eServices platform will continue to be rolled out across Asia and the capabilities enhanced to deepen Sun Life Financial¡¦s customer engagement and partner relationships.
