A 2009
report by Lopez Research called Successful Mobile Deployments Require
Robust Security has identified Research In Motion (RIM) as providing
the most robust mobile security solution for enterprise. The report
examined and evaluated the device, transmission and network security
offerings in the marketplace. RIM was awarded an overall mobile
security rating of 4/4 for the BlackBerry Solution.
The
report concluded that a comprehensive mobile security solution provides
protection on three levels by preventing unauthorised access to
the device and its data, data as it transits the network and the
corporate network.
According
to Lopez Research, the following three levels of security were used
to evaluate the security offering of vendors:
The
device and its data (device security) - Securing data that resides
on the device as well as securing the device itself from malware.
Data
as it transits the network (transmission security) - A data
transmission security solution enables identity verification of
the sender and the receiver and protects data from being modified
by a third party as it transits the wireless network.
The corporate network (network security) - A robust mobile
security solution must prohibit unauthorised access to the corporate
network while allowing authorised users to pass data in an out freely.
RIM
was recognised as providing solid security across the three areas
of device, transmission and network and for offering a solution
where security was designed into the platform from its inception.
The
Lopez Research report advised that mobility is no loner considered
a luxury within enterprise but a critical part of networking strategy
as companies look to increase productivity and remain competitive
in a rapidly changing environment.
